Homeless man in critical condition following incident on Grand Canal, Dublin

A homeless man is in critical condition following an incident in Dublin city on Tuesday.

It's understood he was sleeping in a tent near Grand Canal at Wilton Terrace which was removed during works by Dublin City Council.

The tent was removed using an industrial vehicle some time between midday and 1pm yesterday afternoon.

The man was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he reportedly underwent surgery for what are said to be life-changing injuries.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Pearse Street were alerted to an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 14th January, 2020 at Wilton Terrace, Dublin 2.

"A man (age unknown) was sleeping in his tent when it was being removed in an attempt to tidy the canal walk way.

"The man received injuries during this incident and was removed to St. Vincent's Hospital where he remains in serious condition but stable."

Dublin Regional Homelessness Executive have been contacted for comment.
