Homeless man in court accused of murdering Airdrie man on Easter Sunday

A homeless man has appeared in court accused of murdering Airdrie man Peter Mcelroy on Easter Sunday.

Gerard McGinlay, 38, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged following the incident on Airdrie High Street.

Mr Mcelroy, 45, was pronounced dead after police were called to the town on Sunday afternoon.

McGinlay, who court documents state is homeless, was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon.

He made no plea at the brief hearing and was remanded in custody pending a further court appearance.
