'Homeless' man found dead in alley behind Hilton Hotel on night temperatures hit -2C

A man who is believed to have been sleeping rough behind a Hilton Hotel has died after temperatures plummeted overnight.

Police and ambulance services were called to the scene in Nottingham at around 8.20am following reports that a man had collapsed in a city centre alleyway.

The man was rushed to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment but was later pronounced dead, reports Nottinghamshire Live .

The death, which remains unexplained at this stage, came after a night that saw temperatures in Nottingham plummet to a wintry -2C.

A cordon remains at the scene next to the luxury hotel, just off the city's Milton Street.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman added: "Officers believe his death isn’t suspicious. His cause of death hasn't been established."

The Met Office forecast for today is showing highs of 5C in Nottingham today.

It recorded temperatures of -2C at 5am, three hours before the man was found collapsed.

The incident has emerged as the mercury plunged to a frosty -9.9C in some parts of the UK last night - hitting the coldest temperatures this autumn so far.

Forecasters say the coldest spot in the UK during the freezing night was in Braemar, north-east Scotland.
