Homeless man being forced out of makeshift house he built by beach

A homeless man is being forced out of a makeshift beach side home he built.

The unnamed man did not have planning permission for the small hut in Folkestone and it will be demolished.

The occupant had made the hut along Marine Walk, facing the Mermaid beach, complete with fitted windows, a front door, tarpaulin roof and flanked by the existing stone walls either side, reports Kent Live .

Wooden panels nailed together have made an exterior wall, designed to shade the homeless man from the strong winds often felt down the seafront.

It even has its own garden area, decorated with potted plants and hanging baskets.

But the replica home will meet a sour end, as the rough sleeper has been given notice to take his belongings and leave.

The notice was spotted pinned to the front door today (March 28).

Once he is gone, his hut will be destroyed.

A council spokesman said contact has been made with Porchlight and the Rainbow Centre charity in order to make sure the man can get the help he needs.

The spokesman said: “We are aware of the illegal structure on Marine Walk and our officers have issued notice for the man who is residing there to vacate and remove his belongings next week.

“The structure will then be dismantled.

“We are working closely with Porchlight and the Rainbow Centre who have made contact with the man to help him access the relevant help and support.”
