Homeless man battered by gang of thugs who broke his ribs

A homeless man was hospitalised with broken ribs and internal injuries after being attacked by a gang of three men.

Merseyside Police were alerted at 2.45pm on Friday (July 8) by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service, who said a man in his 30s had been assaulted on Westminster Road in Kirkdale about 40 minutes earlier. The men also stole his bike.

The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not said to be life-threatening. However, he remains in hospital two days later.

Officers have launched an investigation, carrying out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries locally. The three males are described as being dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings.

Detective Inspector Nick Suffield said: “We are working to establish the circumstances of what has taken place. The victim remains in hospital two days after the attack and we are determined to find the people responsible and bring them to justice.

“I would ask for anyone who was in the area of Westminster Road on Friday afternoon who saw or heard anything suspicious or can assist our investigation in any way to contact us.

“We are also looking to locate the stolen bike which is described as a turquoise green Apollo mountain bike.”
