Group of homeless people take over building in Chester city centre

A group of homeless people have taken over a building in Chester City Centre using squateers' rights.

Our colleagues at Chester Live are reporting that around 20 homeless people moved into Hamilton House in Hamilton Place'

The Hamilton House building is currently being used for a 24/7 homeless support hub.

Police officers from  Cheshire Constabulary  are in attendance.

Apparently, the group - who have been pictured inside the building - are referring to themselves as 'Topfutures' - which is a pastiche of Forfutures, the council contractors managing the homeless hub beneath where they are.

The group have unfurled a giant banner out of the window of Hamilton House with a message stating: 'No 2 homeless.'

Chester Live reporter David Holmes is currently inside the building with the group and has taken photographs of them.

He is reporting that the the protesters have been moved to stage their demonstration having faced being out in dreadful weather over the past few days when there has been heavy rainfall every day.

Although police are at the scene at Hamilton House, they are just there to keep an eye on the situation.

The homeless protesters have emphasised they are staging a peaceful demonstration.
