Homeless centre opens its doors with show of story-telling art
Andy: "I’ve had a break from Art, starting again only last December. The last time I did it was when I was 14. But between that time I’ve done a lot of cake designs ... Photograph: PR"... For years I’ve wanted to do art or poetry, but I gave so much of myself through nursing that I found I couldn’t do it. Now I’m no longer a nurse, I can channel my passion into art."Photograph: PRJohn Paul: "Express yourself like you would composing with passion."Photograph: PR

I saw the graffiti and rubbish all over the place, so I thought I’d do something on a canvass to state my feelings about it. I’m just thinking, is this how we want to live, in a load of pollution?"Photograph: PRFernando's illustrationPhotograph: PRAlf: "I prefer to do printmaking (lino) more than painting or drawing. I like the process of the printmaking; engraving on the lino, inking and creating combinations with the prints (the way I put them together). It does not have an immediate result, so you have time to think about your work and make decisions."Photograph: PRPhillip's artworkPhotograph: PREliseu: "I like to reproduce my spirit through art. I like art that is abstract; I believe the name ‘abstract’ holds the key to helping us reproduce art. I like to create art in a group because this creates a sense of freedom. That’s why the art room is a great place. I don’t like to see people in a bad mood, feeling low; I believe you can make them feel better, even for a few minutes, by letting them look at a piece of art. We can change emotions, we can even change our surroundings, through art."Photograph: PRSoloman's artworkPhotograph: PRTim's paintingPhotograph: PRAndy at work.
