Homebuilders want to build 600 new homes in North Ayrshire

Big developers could get permission to build nearly 600 homes in Kilwinning and near Stevenston this week.

Taylor Wimpey wants to erect a new housing estate of 198 homes to the west of Dalry Road in Kilwinning.

Persimmon Homes hope to get the green light for 368 houses and 24 flats on at Mayfield Farm between Stevenston and Saltcoats.

Council planners recommend politicians should approve both developments.

Kilwinning Community Council members object to the proposals in their town over fears of car accidents caused by more vehicles turning into Dalry Road.
The community council also pointed out no bungalows are available for pensioners and there is no playpark for kids.

The Taylor Wimpey site would offer detached houses, semis, and terraces with two, three and four bedrooms.

A supporting statement said: “This will provide a range and choice of house types and sizes for the local community and to attract new people to the area.”

It added: “This is an effective housing site that can be delivered in the short term to meet the housing needs of the local population.”

There would be a mixture of two, three, four and five bedroom properties in the proposed Persimmon Homes estate. Two blocks of four storey flats with 12 in each are also on the plans.

The firm said the housing mix of 17 designs and layout would create a desirable place to live, be accessible and financially feasible.

A number of objections were lodged over the proposed development on sheep grazing land.  There are fears the proposed flats would be an eyesore and there are too many houses.  Another concern is homes at Ailsa Road being overlooked and losing sunlight.
