Homebase issue updates on online orders amid huge demand

DIY stores including Homebase are continuing to offer home delivery of its products during the nationwide lockdown.

With Easter weekend fast approaching a number of DIY chains are experiencing high demand in orders as the public, but customers will now face longer delivery times.

A statement on the Homebase website reads: "Since closing our stores we’ve been working hard to make the necessary changes to our operations to ensure we are keeping our team and customers safe during this unprecedented global crisis.

"With safety as our first priority, we have taken the decision to continue to operate online only, and our home delivery service has been adapted to keep our teams safe during this time. For the time being our stores will remain closed to customers and we’ll let you know as soon as we reopen.

"We’re doing everything we can to provide the home and garden products, advice, and inspiration that people are looking for at this challenging time."

The store has confirmed that it is following social distancing guidelines by running a contact-free delivery service, with larger items delivered to the first accessible room in your home or to an agreed drop off point.

Homebase is also reassuring customers that it's taking wide-ranging measures to ensure the safety of its workers in the warehouses with extra space to allow for social distancing and staggering shift changeovers.

It's rival store Wickes has had to open an online queue due to the demand, with customers having a 10 minute slot to visit the website, while B&Q has closed its stores but is still offering a contact free click and collect service.
