Home struck by gunfire in second house shooting in three weeks

A house was struck by gunfire during a shooting in the early hours of this morning.

Police were scrambled to Beloe Street in Dingle, at around 1.05am on Wednesday, January 20, after it was reported that a loud bang was heard in the area.

Officers arrived at the scene where they discovered damage to the window of a house.

The damage was consistent with a shooting, police said.

No one was injured during the incident and police remain in the area today where patrols have been stepped up.

Last month, a shot was fired at a home on  Dingle Lane  just after 11pm, with detectives saying it was simply "good fortune" no-one was hurt.

There is not indication both incident are linked to each other.

Anyone who witnessed last night's incident or saw any suspicious behaviour in the area are being urged to come forward.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: “We are keen to hear from anyone with information following a shooting in Beloe Street in the early hours, and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, any suspicious behaviour in the area, or has CCTV or dashcam footage to please get in touch.

“Officers remain in the area this morning to carry out house-to-house, forensic and CCTV enquiries, and high-visibility patrols have been stepped up to provide reassurance.

"We are committed to tackling gun crime and will do everything we can to make our streets safer, but we need the community to help us.

"I would again urge people to come forward as any information, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, could prove vital to the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, or 101 quoting ref. 21000040164. You can also report information to Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
