Home Office issue safety advice for Liverpool FC fans heading to Barcelona for Champions League clash

The Home Office has issued safety advice for Liverpool FC fans travelling to Barcelona for the Champions League clash on Wednesday.

Officers from Merseyside Police will be in the city to help travelling fans before and after the match.

The Reds face FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou Stadium in the first leg of the semi-finals at 9pm on Wednesday.

Fans are advised to be at the stadium no later than 6.45pm, and were told to enter through external gate, Access 21, where there will be initial ticket checks and searches.

Wheelchair viewing areas will be available for Liverpool supporters on Level 1.

Supporters will be held behind after the match ends for around 20 minutes in order to allow the home fans to leave the ground.

There will be no transport laid on specifically for Liverpool FC fans travelling to the Camp Nou on Wednesday. The easiest way to get to and from the stadium is by the city's Metro system.

The Home Office's official guidance advised using public transport to travel to the stadium - with Metro Palau Reial named as the nearest station to the ground.

The Home Office safety advice also said: "As in any other city beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers at airports, railway stations, around the town centre and when using public transport - only carry what you need and leave spare cash and valuables in hotel safety deposits."

A first wave of Liverpool FC supporters arrived into Barcelona on Monday, as the city prepared for an influx of thousands of Reds fans over the coming days.

Many supporters are expected to travel over without tickets to the match - but there is no official 'fan zone' arranged for fans hoping to watch the match near the ground.
