The hotel that housed a scandal-hit nightclub popular with Liverpool's wags could soon have a casino.
Liverpool One's Hilton Hotel is the subject of plans submitted to the council that would see a space on its ground floor converted.
The hotel used to house exclusive club PlayGround, a favourite of Liverpool celebs including Coleen Rooney, Danielle Lloyd and Alex Gerrard when it opened.
And it became known in the city for lavish spending when a 30-litre bottle of Champagne was sold from the club's 18 foot long bar for £125,000 in 2012.
However the club, which is now closed, was the subject of a licence review the following year after a member of staff was punched in the face and police officers found wraps of cocaine in a VIP area .
A report at the time listed the reasons for the licensing review as: “Multiple offences of violence. Members of staff assaulted.
Pregnant robber who didn't want baby born in jail fails to turn up for sentencing
“Once closed cocaine residue found plus empty wraps on floor main and VIP room.”
There is limited detail in the application about the new casino but the application describes the current usage of the space where it would be as a nightclub, meaning it could include some or all of what was PlayGround.
The plan for the Hilton is the second major proposal for a casino in Liverpool this year.
Plans to convert the old George Henry Lee's building off Williamson Square into a luxury hotel with a bar, casino and cabaret in its basement were approved by the council's planning committee earlier this year.
