Narcotics suppression police have seized assets worth millions of baht belonging to the alleged financial manager of a major drug network based in Lop Buri province.
A team of police and soldiers searched a luxury house at a housing estate in Muang district early Wednesday morning after learning it belonged to a suspect identified only the media as Pongsakorn.
He allegedly handles the financial affairs of two alleged major drug suppliers in Lop Buri - 26-year-old twin brothers Supachai and Chaiwut Thareerak.
One of the brothers, Supachai, was shot dead in front of a commercial building in downtown Lop Buri on Monday night. He was wanted on an arrest warrant for attempted murder.
Pongsakorn surrendered to police at Phra Phutthabat police station in Saraburi on Tuesday night.
His parents were at the house when it was raided. The house was impounded pending further investigation.
Pol Lt Gen Sommai Kongwisaisuk, chief of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, on Wednesday interrogated the suspect in Phra Phutthabat district.
During interrogation, Pongsakorn admitted to having known the twin brothers, but insisted he was not involved in the drug trade.
He said he had a business selling fighting cocks in Lop Buri and earned 40,000-50,000 baht a month.
The suspect said his house was valued at 4 million baht and he was paying it off in monthly instalments. Its purchase had nothing to do with the twin brothers, Thai media reported.
Police allege Pongsakorn purchased five houses in the housing estate, but used the names of other people as the buyers.
Pongsakorn was being held in police custody in Saraburi.
