Dec. 19--A man involved in a Little Village home invasion this week has been charged with murder after a second home invader died two days later, authorities said.
Ronald Williamson, 35, faces murder, armed home invasion and attempted armed robbery charges in the Wednesday incident in the 2200 block of South Avers Avenue that left Lawrence Pitts, 37, dead. The shooting took place about 10:05 p.m. Wednesday, police said, and Pitts, of the 3500 block of West Cermak Road, was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital, authorities said.
Williamson and Pitts were armed when they forced their way into the home Wednesday evening, police said. A man inside the home started struggling with them and the second man -- identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Pitts -- was shot, according to a statement from police News Affairs.
Williamson was hit several times in the head with a gun during the fight, police said.
Pitts and Williamson were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment. The man at the home was taken to St. Anthony Hospital for treatment and released, while Williamson remained in the hospital at least until he was charged Friday.
A probable cause hearing was held for Williamson on Friday before a duty judge, and he was expected to appear in court Monday, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman, on Saturday.
