Home-grown artworks on display

Invaluable artworks by Thai masters and other talented artists are being showcased during the fourth "Krungthai Art Awards" exhibition that will wrap on May 3 at the Krungthai Art Gallery, a 70-year-old Sino-Portuguese building that has been renovated into a contemporary art space.

Organised by Krungthai Bank, the exhibition features 72 artworks from a total of 309 entries by both professional and amateur artists from across the country. Seventeen among those collected are award-winning pieces. Also displayed are seven artworks by national artists including Thavee Ratchaneekorn, Thongchai Rakpathum, Prof Wichai Sithirat, Prof Vichoke Mukdamanee, Emeritus Prof Preecha Thouthong, Emeritus Prof Itthipol Thangchalok and Inson Wongsam.

The Krungthai Art Awards was held to promote the art creations that portray "Thainess" and to give artists moral support so that they will continue in their artistic development. This time around, the artists have created work and portrayed "Krungthai", a land that is rich with aesthetic art value and high morale that will help the economy, ideas and creativity thrive for sustainable prosperity.

Krungthai Art Gallery is on Yaowarat Road and is open Mondays until Saturdays, 10am-5pm. There is no admission fee.
