It's that time of year, when the Christmas decorations come down from the loft, the mince pies are in the oven and Mariah Carey is on repeat.
Most people would probably agree that there are few things as joyful as spreading Christmas cheer around your home, in the form of fairy lights, baubles and, of course, a tree. The actual process of putting them up, however, can be a lot less joyous.
In fact, unless you're some kind of home decor expert, putting up a tree and actually making it look half decent can be a pretty stressful job, especially when it comes to hanging those bloomin' lights.

But, if you're wondering why your Christmas tree never looks like all the fancy ones on Instagram, it turns out you - like many of us - could have been hanging your lights wrong for all these years.
Yep, according to a home decor expert, there's a much simpler way to hang your festive fairy lights, that won't leave you tied up in knots.
Nina, who has dubbed herself as the 'go-go girl for affordable finds' online, has taken to Instagram and TikTok to share her incredible hack for hanging Christmas lights, and we can't believe it has ever been so simple.
In the clip, Nina explains that rather than wrapping the lights around the tree horizontally, you should hang them vertically. It sounds strange, but it seriously works.
To start off with, you just need to place the end of the lights - the opposite end to the plug end - at the top of the tree, then string them vertically.
"This will allow you to use fewer lights, it’ll appear brighter on your tree, and [is] easier to remove at the end of the season," said said. Wow, it really is that simple.
