Home completely destroyed in 'severe' blaze which closed A38 - and family dog has gone missing

A family, who tonight are sleeping at a friend's house after their home was destroyed in a blaze, has issued a desperate appeal to find their missing dog.

Abi Artus said her beloved Jack Russell named Rosie, disappeared after flames broke out in her home, in Barrow Gurney at around 12:43pm today, May 10.

Hour-long tailbacks built up on the A38 while firefighters tackled the blaze. Passengers and flight crews were spotted ditching their vehicles and walking to Bristol Airport to avoid the gridlock.

Abi said she had just left her home when neighbours called to tell her the bad news.

The 23-year-old rushed back to find the fire had completely gutted the property, destroying all of her daughter's photographs and toys.

To make matters worse, Abi realised her two-year-old dog had fled in panic when the fire first erupted.

Rosie was seen running along the A38 but there have been no further sightings.

"I just want to get my dog back." said Abi. "She must have been really scared and maybe injured.

"We're really shocked by what's happened. We've lost everything. I've lost all the memories of my daughter."
