Home business showcase competition entry 2015-16: Eggnogg

Kate Edmunds, director of Eggnogg, explains why the business should win the home business category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.

Upstairs, downstairs – from child’s bedroom to dedicated office, our business has literally moved all over our house through its different stages of growth.

Starting as a one-man band from the top floor in my son’s bedroom, picking and packing myself between teddies and laundry baskets with sales calls, hopscotching between odd socks and half-eaten biscuits.

Later we moved down a floor as the business grew, to a larger, slightly tidier spare bedroom, with towering stock and help from friends to pick and pack.

Today with hundreds of accounts, both at home and abroad, growth has sent us down to the basement which was once let to tenants. Now it’s converted into a dedicated office with desks and a phone line, employing a sales manager and accountant with fulfilment moved to a separate warehouse. Increased profits has sent us under the stairs.

All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
