Silver Moor was created in December 2013. It is a small risk management consultancy practice based in north Somerset.
The focus of our work is managing the ‘human factor’ – solving business problems where human error is the main factor. This involves investigating business processes, features of the workplace and the organisational culture to understand why people are behaving the way they do. Armed with this understanding we help clients reduce the likelihood of errors, or mitigate the consequences.
One of the challenges when setting up the business was to keep costs to a minimum while building a strong brand and reaching a large number of potential clients. The business operates from home, but clients are surprised when we tell them this – our online presence makes it feel like we have several employees and a dedicated office.
Our first year of trading has been terrific, with projects completed in England, Wales and Scotland. This has included helping the team at Edinburgh Trams successfully start operations, modelling the cost impact of major infrastructure changes for a mainline rail operator, redesigning the driver competence development programme for a major bus operator and delivering a programme of accident investigator training for a fire and rescue service.
Our turnover in the first year is on track to exceed £100,000. We have been shortlisted for Corporate LiveWire’s South West SME Management Consultancy Company of 2014 and are looking forward to an even more successful 2015.
