What a journey we have had – utility room first, back bedroom, then a 20 square metre wooden hut in a rural Norfolk garden. Not the expected habitat of two ex Metropolitan Police detectives.
Five years ago we started offering crime scene investigation-themed, team building events. Our customers get the chance to investigate a crime and work closely as a team. They enjoy: fingerprinting, blood spatters, ballistics, hair and fibre analysis and create a photo fit.
As a result of repeat business and sustained marketing the company has courted some substantial blue-chip companies, ranging from Sky TV to Eventbrite.
Our home office has been a major factor in our success. In our early days you could don your pyjamas for a 10-second walk to work. Not now, because the wooden hut contains many of our 15 or so employees, from permanent to interns to work experience.
The most amusing, lucrative and challenging event of the hut era was when we invited UK schools to take part in a ‘Fingerprint World Record Attempt’. Over 20,000 students took part. The production line ran into the kitchen and over 60,000 parts were packed into recyclable cardboard boxes. The world record was smashed and we made an excellent profit. Of this, £1,000 was donated to a foodbank and CLIC Sargent.
In August this year we moved into permanent offices. We still lament the hut days.
