Business: Off to see my lawyer
Based: London
Website: offtoseemylawyer.com
Off to see my lawyer is law firm that specialises in advising small to medium businesses in the UK. Unlike traditional law firms, it has no high street presence; no sombre oak panelled offices with lawyers peering over gold rimmed glasses.
Off to see my lawyer is run from a loft office at home. Its founder, a mum of two, was fed up with long hours in the City and not seeing her children. She felt there must be a way around it and founded a ‘virtual’ law firm available on-line and specialising in advising entrepreneurs -most of whom also operate from home around their family commitments and really appreciate the on-line access.
In the last 12 months clients from as far away as the Outer Hebrides have been advised, webinars have been run, clients are advised via email, phone or Skype and thereby saving time and expense travelling to appointments. The impact on the environment is also thereby reduced.
The children see what it means to run a business and are already learning entrepreneurial skills themselves. There is no rent or need to commute, which in turn means increased profits. The business has invested in cloud-based platforms and apps to reduce paper and grown to include a team of lawyers who all work from home offices too. As a result of the flexibility offered the team are very committed, which makes for a very happy business, lots of repeat customers and contented mums.
