I launched Little Fish Event Management in June 2014. I set the business up on a shoestring with no external funding using only my last month’s maternity wage.
In order to set up a professional business on this limited budget, home working was the only option. I had to use time creatively, as I could only afford eight hours of childcare per week for the first three months.
I created my own website using a drag and drop platform, and chose to use and pay for a virtual office address. I use and pay for Google business apps, Microsoft Office and other technology programmes on a monthly basis. I leverage my contacts and connections to help with things I cannot do myself, such as graphic design or professional website tasks.
All I need to run my business is a phone, a laptop and my own drive and passion to make sure it succeeds. I was recently a young entrepreneur of the year finalist in a local competition, and have been actively working on event projects for clients since month two of the business.
I am now drawing up my growth plan as I have a vision to leverage home workers to grow Little Fish. Maybe one day there will be Little Fishes all over the world.
