Rayeesa Asghar-Sandys, owner of Rayeesa’s Indian Kitchen, explains why the business should win the home business category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.

After 17 years as a Met police officer I handed in my truncheon in exchange for a chef’s knife when we moved from London to glorious Herefordshire. This gave me the opportunity to develop my love for Hyderabadi food. My mother taught me the basics as a child and there my passion began.

I now run my own Indian cookery school in Herefordshire. However, not everyone can join me here so I have created these wonderful frozen Indian cooking sauces to takeaway. We have done the hard work - you simply grab one from your freezer and decide what to add to it, for a stress-free, tasty and healthy curry.

The frozen food industry is about to get sexy with great quality products like ours for food-loving, health conscious, busy individuals wanting convenience without compromise.

My eldest daughter Farah now helps me run the business. She is the brains and I am the creator.

All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the top three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
