Home Bargains to open £1m store in Worle, creating more than 50 jobs

Retail giant Home Bargains has announced a new £1m store that will create more than 50 new jobs is set to open in Worle, North Somerset.

The 19,500 sq ft outlet in the Queensway District Centre, which was previously occupied by home improvement firm Homebase, will begin trading on Saturday September 18.

In total, the discount retail store will employ 61 staff, including 58 newly created positions recruited from the local area, with additional staff and management transferring from other stores.

The manager of the new Worle branch, Melina Bunzly, began her career with the business as a store supervisor in Bristol before managing the company’s Bridgwater outlet.

Ms Buzley said: “Opening our new Worle store alongside such a fantastic team, who have worked exceptionally hard to get the new store ready, will be an unforgettable career moment for me.”

Home Bargains, which was founded in Liverpool in 1976, said it would be donating £2,000 to charity Weston Hospicecare, which helps people in the region with life-limiting illness to access palliative and end-of-life care. A cheque will be presented to the charity at the store’s opening.

Mark Flower, director of fundraising and communications at Weston Hospicecare, said: “We are extremely grateful to Home Bargains for choosing Weston Hospicecare as their charity.

"After a tough year in fundraising, we are thankful for their donation. We wish Home Bargains every success for their new store in Weston.”

Home Bargains has more than 575 outlets across the UK, employing around 28,500 people. The company has expansion plans to grow its number of stores to 800 with a headcount of 35,000 staff.
