Home Bargains shoppers slam 'embarrassing' 19p item

Shoppers love to grab an amazing deal at Home Bargains.

With some designer dupes at a fraction of the price, fans are normally thrilled when the shop shares its latest offering on social media.

But one post has really got people bothered - despite the incredibly cheap price, Manchester Evening News reports.

It all started after the retailer announced it is stocking Fiji water at 19p a bottle.

Home Bargains wrote: "We have Fiji water in stores at 19p! It gathers minerals and electrolytes from slowly being filtered by volcanic rock and this creates a smooth taste. Get yours now, only in stores."

The product usually comes in at £1.65 so 19p represents a huge saving - but some shoppers were worried about the cost for the environment.

One person said: "Omg what a massive carbon footprint all for 19p. That should be embarrassing instead of being promoted. Plenty of sparkling water in this country!!"

Another simply commented: "bottled water = plastic waste."

"Well this looks good for the environment... Transporting water around the world (madness) and selling it in a plastic bottle for 19p," another said.

But some people did stick up for the shop. One shopper said: "All bottled water comes in plastic bottles...doh don’t pick on hb because of there advert there are people in this country who may not be able to buy expensive water for their children and themselves."

Home Bargains has been contacted for comment.
