Home Bargains shoppers praise 'caring' store after Christmas announcement

Home Bargains was praised by thousands of customers after deciding to give staff a break over the Christmas period.

The retailer, which was founded in Liverpool by businessman Tom Morris, made an announcement before Christmas about its opening hours and the reaction from shoppers was overwhelming.

Sharing news of its opening hours on it Instagram page, which has 1m followers, Home Bargains said: “CHRISTMAS ANNOUNCEMENT. All of our stores will be closing for Boxing Day & New Years Day. If you're in desperate need of bargains make sure you don't miss out and pop into our stores a few days before. Love from team HB.”

The post racked up 18.9k likes and more than 500 comments from customers who heaped praise on the retailer.

Sophia1970 said: “Every shop should do this!! making staff work on boxing Day and new years is a disgrace!! well done”.

Vivienne_wonderland added: “From someone who has worked in retail for over 16 years. Thanks for thinking of your staff”.

Hinchhauls.official said: “Amazing well done for giving your staff a rest. merry Christmas”. Mrsmillzzz added: “Well done. let staff have the time with their families. Never understand why shops are open Boxing Day and NY (& I'm a shopaholic!!)”
