Home Bargains shares heartwarming reason its stores will be closed on Boxing Day

Home bargains has revealed it won't be opening its doors on Boxing Day this year, following in the footsteps of John Lewis.

In a heart-warming message to customers, the discounter thanked staff for their hard work over the past year, announcing that all stores will be closed to allow workers to spend time with friends and family.

The brand's official Instagram page wrote: "To all our staff: Thank you for all your hard work once again this year.

"All our stores will be closed on Boxing Day to ensure you are able to spend time with your friends and family."

The company shared the message to both shoppers and workers on social media (xxxxxxxxxxx)

The post then went on to thank shoppers for their "understanding and support" revealing business will resume as normal on December 27.

And shoppers were quick to share their support, with one customer writing "all shops should do this" and another saying "that's how it should be".

Praising the chain's decision, one retail worker said leaving her daughter at home on Boxing Day is a "killer" regardless of any extra pay incentives.

"Amazing, it should be the same for all retail shops. Enough money has been spent prior to Christmas. Boxing Day should be a family day and the sales will always still happen after. I myself am working Boxing Day. Yes it's time and a half but not being able to see my little girl enjoy playing with her presents is a killer x."

Her comment received more than 90 likes, with one user responding that it also "broke her heart" that she couldn't be with her kids last year, despite stores being quiet and customers still being able to shop online.

Home Bargains branches will open on Christmas Eve, however will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with service resuming on December 27 when the sales will kick off.

The retailer's opening hours will follow the likes of John Lewis, which traditionally closes its doors until December 27 to give staff a rest over the holiday.

This also extends to New Year's Day, when the store will be closed to shoppers once again.
