Home Bargains' rules for shoppers as new entry system is introduced

Home Bargains has implemented many changes in stores throughout the coronavirus crisis.

The retailer kept opening hours the same but introduced a number of social distancing measures, including signage and floor markings and Perspex screens at tills.

Now Home Bargains has announced a new measure. Following in the footsteps of supermarkets Aldi and Tesco, the store is introducing a traffic light system to manage the number of customers inside at any one time.

The system is created by Hitachi Europe and is installed at the entrance and exit of 550 Home Bargains stores, reports Liverpool Echo.

The sensor is equipped with technology that will simultaneously count people entering and exiting. When the light signals green, customers will be able to enter the store - when red, customers will have to remain outside until someone leaves.

TJ Morris director of innovation, Joe Morris, said: "Over the past few months, retail environments have changed, and we've had to quickly adapt to new ways of operating.

"New, innovative technologies have played a significant part in us still being able to provide a safe and pleasant shopping experience for our customers.

"By collaborating directly with manufactures, like Hitachi, we're able to actively contribute and share our knowledge to ultimately provide a better, tailored solution for our stores.

"The capabilities and applications of Hitachi's 3D LiDAR sensor are transformative for the retail industry and we believe it will offer us both great value and future opportunities."

It comes after Tesco announced customers would start to see a "simple traffic light system" at the entrances of some larger stores in the coming weeks.

The supermarket confirmed that larger stores will also now have colleagues at the entrances to help everyone follow the safety measures and answer any questions.
