Home Bargains implements new rule shoppers need to be aware of in stores

Supermarkets and stores selling essential items have remained open during the coronavirus crisis.

Social distancing measures, new opening hours, product limitations and perspex screens at tills are the new normal as shops work to keep shoppers and staff safe.

Some stores are also going one step further, asking customers to be mindful of touching items in supermarkets.

The latest retailer to do this is Home Bargains, who has followed in the footsteps of Asda and Aldi, reports Liverpool Echo.

The publication recently spotted signs outside a Home Bargains store which reminded customers to, when possible, only touch items they were going to buy.

Home Bargains is asking shoppers to take a common sense approach to remain mindful of this rule.

It comes after Asda updated its rules asking customers not to touch items they weren't going to purchase.

A message on their website read: "There will also be clear signage, directional barriers and floor markings to help you move around our store easily and maintain a two-metre distance from other customers and our colleagues.

"You are allowed to bring your children and other members of your household to our stores, but we ask that you keep this to a minimum to help us maintain social distancing advice.

"We’re asking customers to only touch items they intend to purchase and to use cashless payment wherever they can to minimise contact."

While Aldi is asking customers not to touch its trolleys when queuing outside until they are at the front.
