Home Bargains at Glasgow's Forge Retail Park wants to double in size

Plans have been submitted by the owners of Glasgow's Forge Retail Park to allow for Home Bargains to expand the size of their store.

The plans, drawn up by Zander Planning on behalf of the Forge Retail Park Unit Trust, were submitted to Glasgow City Council's Planning Department last week in respect of the shopping centre - which is Scotland's 4th largest retail park.

The application proposes for the reconfiguration through demolition and extensions to provide for a new 9,945m2 foodstore for Home Bargains - alongside a new petrol filling station, revised access and amended parking layout for 1,778 cars and landscaping.

The planning statement included as part of the application details that the Forge Retail Park Unit Trust 'are seeking to secure additional food retail floorspace/ units to address vacancies and to diversify the tenant mix at the Forge Retail Park'.

If successful, Home Bargains would expand their store by taking over the adjacent Poundstrecher unit - with the move helping to "secure their ongoing presence" according to the application.

In support of the proposals, the expansion plans are considered "modest" and "would not alter the function or role of the Commercial Centre or retail park".
