Dieter Brummer, who starred in Home and Away as the hugely popular heart-throb Shane Parrish in the 1990s, has died aged 45.
Brummer won most popular actor at the Logies in 1995 and 1996, having appeared in 557 episodes of the long-running program in the mid-90s.
He and his on-screen wife Melissa George became one of the soap's most popular couples as Shane and Angel Parrish, until he left the show in 1996.
Brummer also appeared in Underbelly: The Golden Mile as policeman Trevor Haken, with his most recent credits including as Troy Miller in Neighbours in 2011 and 2012, and Winners & Losers in 2013 and 2014.
NSW Police confirmed they found the body of a 45-year-old man at a home in Glenhaven on Saturday afternoon, after being asked to conduct a welfare check.
They said the death was not believed to be suspicious.
Fellow actor Steve Comey released a statement on behalf of Brummer's family, confirming the death.
"He has left a massive hole in our lives and our world will never be the same."
The production team of Home and Away and Channel 7 said both were "deeply saddened" by the death.
"Dieter was a much-loved Home and Away cast member and celebrated by Australian and international audiences for his award-winning portrayal of Shane Parrish," they said.
"We send our sincere condolences to Dieter’s family and friends during this very difficult time."
