Home alone kids left to go hungry in filthy Paisley flat

A Paisley woman left two children home alone in a dirty flat that did not have enough food or bedding.

Leesa McKay, 40, walked out on the children, who cannot be identified, and left them to fend for themselves in her Seedhill Road flat from July 12 to 13, with the older child having to look after the younger kid.

The details emerged when McKay, pictured, appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court.

McKay admitted neglecting one of the children, causing them “unnecessary suffering or injury to health” and didn’t provide enough food, bedding or furniture for the youngsters, and left them in unhygienic conditions in the flat.

Defence solicitor Gemma Elder told Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill that McKay was suffering from mental health problems at the time, but that there was “no longer a concern” with how she is doing.

The judge called for background reports and adjourned the case until next month, when McKay will learn her fate.
