Home Alone burglar Marv actor Daniel Stern is unrecognisable as he sports white beard

Home Alone's hapless burglar Marv Murchins is seen every year on our screens sporting brunette locks as the iconic film is replayed at Christmas.

But the character's actor Daniel Stern is now unrecognisable with a white beard.

The star, who got slammed in the face with an iron in the Christmas classic, was in his early 30s when the film debuted.

However, Daniel is now 65 and looks a world away from his time as one half of the Wet Bandits.

The star often pops up on social media, sporting a long beard, supporting his son, Henry, who is a politician.

In one video, the actor was seen suggesting slogans to the 40-year-old, who is the first Millennial in the State Senate.

Daniel mused: "I've got something catchy to really get the voters – what about this one? Don't stay Home Alone – get out there and vote for Henry Stern.

"Or this one: 'Vote for Henry Stern you filthy animals.' Again that taps into the Home Alone thing."

Henry replied: "People may get the wrong idea but OK I see where you're going. Is mum home, by the way?"

Daniel was already an established actor when Home Alone was released, narrating The Wonder Years as the adult version of Kevin Arnold.

He returned alongside the rest of the cast for the sequel Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, which saw Macaulay Culkin reprise his role as Kevin McCallister.

More recently Daniel played Dr. Glen Babbit in American drama series Manhattan.

However, he'll always be known for his role in Home Alone in which he starred alongside Joe Pesci, who played Harry Lyme.

Daniel revealed Joe took his role extremely seriously, committing to method acting for the run of the film.

"I heard somewhere that on set Joe genuinely wanted Macaulay Culkin to be intimidated by him and so would act intimidating," Daniel said in Sky documentary The Unofficial Science Of Home Alone.

He added: "We were classic characters in a certain way.

"The friendship was fun, the movie was fun, the silliness we both approached in our own way that was comfortable for each of us, and the chemistry clicked."

Actress Catherine O'Hara also appears in the festive classic as Kevin's mum – but she almost didn't get the gig.

Cinematographer Julio Macat, who worked on the original Home Alone film, explained that Elizabeth Perkins was originally in the running.

"John Hughes asked her to be the Catherine O'Hara role, and she wasn’t able to do it, she was busy," Julio revealed in a new interview.

The filmmaker went on to get hitched to 62-year-old Elizabeth, who starred in another Christmas classic.

"We met on a movie called Miracle On 34th Street, so we would have met four or five years before. We met on the movie and we fell in love," he said in an interview with Metro.

For 27 years, Home Alone was the highest grossing live action comedy after raking in $476.7 million (£391 million) worldwide.
