Hundreds of child abuse images were found on a phone belonging to a Holytown man.
Anthony West, 54, of Main Street, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.
He admitted possession of 562 images between October 2015 and September last year.
Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said police officers armed with a search warrant arrived at West's flat at 6.45am on September 2.
A mobile phone belonging to him was seized and analysed.
The images found included 121 in the most depraved category.
The court heard West has no previous convictions.
Sheriff Thomas Millar called for a criminal justice social work report and a risk assessment.
Sentence was deferred until July and West was placed on the sex offenders' register.
