Holyrood Park patrols as roads police continue to clamp down on vehicles banned from using area

Road policing teams have been carrying out checks in Holyrood Park as they continue their clamp down on banned commercial vehicles.

The national motorcycle unit was out in the park on Monday stopping prohibited vehicles from passing through as a shortcut. Historic Environment Scotland say that the rules surrounding commercial vehicles are in place to improve visitor safety, reduce unnecessary traffic flow through the park and avoid increased wear and tear on the roads.

The vehicles banned are any used for business purposes – such as cars, small vans, trucks, lorries, mini buses and coaches.

Road Policing Scotland posted on Twitter this week to share news of their activity in the park. They said: "National Motorcycle Unit were at Holyrood Park earlier carrying out stops of any commercial vehicles using the park where prohibited to do so. It is important that this green space is left uncongested and unpolluted for everyone, including vulnerable road users to enjoy safely."

Earlier this year police stopped almost 100 vehicles using the park during a massive crackdown. Of those, 66 were prohibited commercial vehicles such as vans and lorries.
