Holyrood Distillery confirmed to open this July with a courtyard marketplace selling food and drink

Holyrood Distillery has confirmed they will open their doors this summer, in July, after renovating the ex-Engine Shed building on St. Leonard's Lane.

They plan to bring single-malt whisky distilling back to the capital for the first time in 100 years, situated next to Holyrood Park in the heart of the capital.

The team behind the project raised over £5 million in funding that helped transform the B-listed building, which dates back to 1835 as part of the Edinburgh & Dalkeith Railway (E&DR).

The 180 year old building has been renovated to create a fully functioning distillery, which will make not only whisky but their own gin, as well.

There will also be an impressive visitor centre featuring a "laboratory" where guests will be surrounded by all kinds of botanical and other ingredients, it is described as "hands-on" experience.

And - just in time for summer - the courtyard space will be used to host an outdoor market with food and drink vendors, similar to the popular markets taking place across the city.
