Holyrood Boxing Gym 'packed' with people paying respects to late founder Bradley Welsh

Holyrood Boxing Gym was "packed" with people paying their respects to its late founder Bradley Welsh today.

The gym reopened this morning for the first time since Mr Welsh was killed on his doorstep on Wednesday evening.

They earlier posted on social media to say that they had been requested to keep the gym open to honour the 48-year-old, who was well-known across the city.

And they added this afternoon: "Holyrood Boxing Gym re-opened its doors this morning, 9am, and the gym was packed with people ready to pay their respects by training in Bradley's name.

"A lot of faces – kids, adults, friends, boxers, trainers, spectators and regular class goers. Yes there were tears, some smiles and fewer laughs, but we all motivated each other to the very end.

"Same again tomorrow, 10am, for the 'Sunday Sermon' as our coach, good friend, brother, uncle, father and son of Edinburgh Bradley John Welsh would call it."

Police yesterday released details of a suspect seen near Chester Street following the fatal shooting of Mr Welsh on Wednesday.

The man, who made off along Walker Street after the incident , is said to be aged between 20 and 30, around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build and with a tanned complexion. He was wearing a baseball cap and was casually dressed.

Detective Superintendent Allan Burton from the Major Investigation Team said: "Someone out there will know who committed this crime and I want you to search your conscience and do the right thing. A family are grieving for the loss of their son, brother, partner and father and they need answers.

"If you can help with this investigation then please contact us immediately.

"I also want to emphasise to the communities of Edinburgh that this incident is being treated as a targeted attack and murders, especially those involving a firearm remain extremely rare."

Anyone with information should contact the Major Investigation Team via 101, quoting incident number 3782 of 17 April. Alternatively get in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
