HOLYROOD 2021: Hepburn retains Cumbernauld & Kilsyth for SNP

Jamie Hepburn retained his Cumbernauld & Kilsyth seat for a third time, and thanked his constituents for the "great privilege" of representing them.

The minister in the previous SNP administration polled 19,633 votes, ahead of second-placed Labour candidate Mark Griffin who received 9792.

Mr Griffin has also been an MSP for the past decade, representing Central Scotland; he is third on Labour's list in the region and is aiming to be returned to Holyrood when the proportional representation results are declared later this afternoon.

Haroun Malik of the Conservatives came third after polling 3375 votes in Thursday's election, while Elaine Ford of the Liberal Democrats received 678.

Voter turnout in Cumbernauld & Kilsyth was 65.28 per cent, the highest of the five North Lanarkshire constituencies and up 8.6 per cent from 2016.

Results were announced just after 2.10pm on the second day of counting at Ravenscraig sports centre in North Lanarkshire.
