Holy Trinity Boxing Club celebrating All Ireland Junior Championships success

Holy Trinity Boxing Club is celebrating after claiming four Irish titles last weekend.

The West Belfast gym sent an impressive eight fighters to the All Ireland Junior Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday.

And there were big wins for four of the squad, including Daniel Owens, Cleptson Dos Santos, Kyle McGreevy and Jon McConnell.

"The boxers all reached the finals through the Co Antrim qualifiers, and we had eight finalists which was fantastic," said Holy Trinity coach Mickey Hawkins.

"Considering a lot of the other teams were made up of two boxers, it shows you the talent we have at Holy Trinity.

"Daniel, Cleptson, Kyle and Jon all got their wins, and Mason McClintock lost out in the split decision against a European bronze medallist.

"Joshua Philips from Ardoyne Holy Cross was the only other boxer from Belfast to medal, so we are delighted with how it went."

Last weekend's success follows on the heels of Holy Trinity's Juvenile wins four weeks ago when James Kelly and Kyle Smith both earned gold medals.

"It has been a decent month or so for the club," Mickey added.

"We have a great bunch of kids here, and you can feel the buzz around the club. The success gives everyone a lift and inspires all the boxers.

"We are travelling to compete in all the championships, and this experience will stand the kids in good stead as they progress in the sport."
