Staff and pupils at Holy Rood High School were asked to leave the premises earlier this afternoon.

The Roman Catholic school, which is situated on the fringes of Holyrood Park , has more than 1000 pupils attend.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Edinburgh are in attendance at a high school in the Duddingston area after a threat to the premises was received by telephone at 2.20pm on Monday, 10 June.

"The building has been evacuated as a precaution and officers remain at the scene."

A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said: "Holy Rood High School received a threat to the premises this afternoon and the school responded appropriately to ensure the safety of all pupils and staff. Police Scotland are currently carrying out enquiries.”
