Isis Holt should give Australia its first track and field medal at the Paralympics after breaking the T35 100m Games record in her heat.

The 20-year-old from Canberra, who already holds the world record of 13.43 seconds, ran 13.49 in Friday morning's opening session at the Olympic Stadium to break the 13.66 set by China's Zhou Xia in Rio.

Zhou ran a personal-best time of 13.56 on Friday to qualify second-fastest.

British sprinter Maria Lyle was the only other finalist to go sub-13 with her 13.90 and their final is at 2.45pm AEST.
