Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp to perform in Aurora

April 08--The Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry will perform at Aurora's RiverEdge Park this summer.

The show is set for July 7 at RiverEdge, 360 N. Broadway St. in downtown Aurora. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Show time is 8 p.m.

Online tickets are available at RiverEdgeAurora.com. Tickets are $55 through May 31 and $65 starting June 1.

Phone and in-person sales start April 29. For ticket information, call the RiverEdge box office at 630-896-6666 or stop by in-person at RiverEdge's satellite box office, the Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd., Aurora, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The Hollywood Vampires made their television debut on the Grammy Awards this year.

In a way, the group has a long history. In 1969 on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, at a club called the Rainbow Bar Grill, the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar, according to a press release from RiverEdge. It was a gathering place for the rock stars living in or passing through L.A.

"To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members," said Cooper, a founding member of the original Vampires.

Cooper and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again -- minus the drinking. Cooper and Depp were joined by Joe Perry of Aerosmith, who is an old friend of both, and the recording began, and the group produced an album.

RiverEdge is accessible from Chicago via Metra's Burlington Northern Santa Fe line. Paid public parking is available in the Metra Lot, with additional private lots surrounding the park and in downtown Aurora.

Other 2016 summer concerts already announced at RiverEdge include the Two Brothers Summer Festival with Cold War Kids, Lord Huron, The Lone Bellow and Phox June 3 and 4, the annual Blues on the Fox Festival June 17 and 18, Kool and The Gang with Thomas McClary of the Commodores June 24, Willie Nelson and Family with special guest Kris Kristofferson June 25 and The Beach Boys and The Temptations Aug. 5.

The full summer concert and special event season will be announced Thursday as part of Aurora Mayor Thomas Weisner's 2016 State of the City Address.

The Hollywood Vampires event is general admission only. Guests are encouraged to bring folding and bag chairs.
