Hollywood star Zac Efron rushed to hospital in 'life or death medical emergency' while filming new show

Hollywood star Zac Efron was rushed to hospital after suffering from a 'life or death medical emergency', it has been reported.

The 32-year-old actor was said to have been flown to Australia from Papua New Guinea, where he is filming a new reality show, by a medical evacuation crew.

It is understood the actor was battling a 'form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection,’ the Mirror Online reports.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, Efron was in a 'stable' condition when he was admitted to St Andrews War Memorial Hospital where he stayed for a week.

The High School Musical star has, it is understood, been given the 'all clear' by doctors following a medical assessment.

Zac, 32, had been in Papua New Guinea to film new reality TV show: Killing Zac Efron.

The Hollywood reporter claimed the daredevil series would see Zac venture "deep into the jungle of a remote, dangerous island, falling off the grid for 21 days".

The Quibi adventure series is said to star and be executive produced by Zac, who will forego all luxuries to survive with nothing but basic gear and a guide partner.

Speaking ahead of filming, Zac said: "I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level.

"I am excited to explore any uncharted territory and discover what unexpected adventure awaits!"

Four days before Christmas, tour guide Cyril Tara posted pictures with Efron as he took him on to Kamanibit Village.

The pair arrived there by canoe before travelling to Pagwi Village.

"I am very happy to be is guide,' said Mr Tara on December 7 as he posed for a picture with Zac.

Zac's latest TV venture comes after he won praise for his role as killer Ted Bundy in Netflix's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile earlier this year.

The Californian native first found fame for starring in the Disney Channel original film High School Musical in 2006.

After his breakthrough role catapulted him to fame, Zac starred in two further spin-offs of the hit movie before appearing in 17 Again with Matthew Perry.

He also starred in adult comedies Bad Neighbours and Dirty Grandpa before returning to his musical roots with The Greatest Showman in 2017.
