Hollywood star unrecognisable with questionable perm in new comedy movie Paint

Owen Wilson has appeared transformed for his new role in upcoming movie release Paint.

The 54-year-old actor is portraying a fictional television painter in the film but his much altered appearance echoes hallmarks of late painter Bob Ross.

And in the first still released to promote the upcoming movie, Wilson has ditched his trademark blonde long locks and opted for a questionable perm.

Appearing in a log cabin backdrop — with a pipe perched in the edge of his mouth — his appearance is worlds away from previous hit films such as the Wedding Crashes and heartstrings movie Marley & Me.

Wilson's character Carl Nargle has enjoyed recognition hosting Vermont's no 1 painting show for nearly three decades.

But when the station hires eventually hires a younger, 'better' painter who steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves he starts doubting his talents as a painter.

Paint was written and directed by Brit McAdams, who is making his feature film directorial debut with the movie.

McAdams also wrote Paints screenplay, which was included in the 2010 Black List, a prestigious repository for unproduced scripts. In the movie’s 2010 description, PAINT ‘s lead character is described as “Bob Ross-esque.”

President of IFC Films Arianna Bocco, who snapped up the rights, described Wilson's 'versatile talent' as 'boundless' to bring Carl Nargle’s character to life.

She gushed: "Paint has all the makings of a quotable comedic masterpiece, and we hope audiences of all ages are ready for a lot of laughs and a lot of heart.”

The film also stars Wendi McLendon-Covey of Bridesmaid fame, Werewolves Within star Michaela Watkin, Broadway's Frozen actress Ciara Renee and newcomer Lucy Freyer.

Wilson's fans will have to wait until April 28 next year for Paint's release.

The Marley & Me actor has also appeared in upcoming supernatural horror comedy Haunted Mansion adapted from The Haunted Mansion theme park ride.

It is the second film based on the theme park attraction following the 2003 movie The Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy, 61, and will hit cinemas in August next year.
