Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg is in Limerick ahead of next year's JP McManus Pro-Am

Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg is in Limerick today to play the world renowned Adare Manor golf course.

The 47-year-old actor is getting some practice in before he plays the same course in the 2020 JP McManus Pro-Am.

Wahlberg, sporting a bushy beard, was very impressed by the venue and posted a video on social media with the resort's iconic manor house in the background.

He beamed: "We are here at Adare Manor, wow, JP, double D, you guys got to be kidding me, wow, beautiful."

The "Double D" reference is likely a nod to Irish billionaire Dermot Desmond who is a business partner of McManus and has been spotted dining out with Hollywood icon Wahlberg in the past.

Wahlberg is an avid golfer and regularly plays on his custom-built course in his home in California.

He will taking part in the JP McManus Pro-Am for the first time in July next year and will be joined other celebrities like fellow actor Hugh Grant.

Tournament host and Limerick man McManus previously said he was thrilled to be welcoming some famous faces to Adare Manor.

He said: “A key part of the Pro-Am is the celebrity amateur golfers who give up their time to support us and I’ve no doubt the spectators will be in for a treat when Mark and Hugh take to the fairways next year.

"I thank them for their commitment and we’re looking forward to welcoming them, and many more players and spectators to Limerick next year.”

The screen stars will be teeing it alongside some of the biggest names in golf with recent Masters winner Tiger Woods coming to Limerick as well as the likes of home heroes Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

This will be the sixth staging of the event that has raised over €140 million for charity since it began in 1990.

And next year will see the players experience the revamped course and resort with McManus reported to have pumped €50-100 million into upgrading the venue.

Businessman and racehorse owner McManus is hoping the renovations will see the course host the 2026 Ryder Cup - twenty years after the K Club in Kildare hosted the famous tournament in 2006.

Paul McGinley claims Shane Lowry's streaky form gives him chance to be huge success
