Hollywood star Colin Farrell files for conservatorship of teen son with genetic disorder

Colin Farrell has filed for conservatorship of his teenage son to grant him the power to care for him as an adult.

The 17-year-old has a genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome which affects the nervous system and causes severe physical and learning disabilities.

Hollywood star Colin, 44, and his 49-year-old ex Kim Bordenave are requesting to be co-conservators according to a court petition obtained by E! News.

This would give them the ability to make medical decisions and care for James when he turns 18 in September.

The publication reports a legal team for the Dubliner said his son “is nonverbal and has issues with his fine motor skills, making him unable to properly care for his own physical health and well-being and requiring him to need assistance in preparing food, eating, bathing, and clothing himself”.

The court hearing is reported to be scheduled for September 27. The filing also includes a note from the boy’s doctor, explaining it will be “difficult” for him to attend. She said: “James is non-verbal, gets very anxious and loses his focus easily.”

Colin, who is also dad to son Henry Tadeusz Farrell, 11, has been vocal about caring for a child with special needs and supports the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics.
