Hollywood producer who vanished is believed to be in Mexico

Dec. 05--The search for a missing Hollywood visual effects producer has ended after police located the man alive in Mexico.

Los Angeles police determined that Eric Anthony Kohler, 27, was living in La Paz, Mexico. Officers now consider Kohler a voluntary missing person based on information found in the investigation.

"Although there is reason to believe that he is in Mexico, we are keeping him in the system as missing," Det. Ken Thomas said. "In this particular case, we do not consider him found."

Kohler was last seen leaving work around 4 p.m. Nov. 24. His family reported him missing after he did not come home for Thanksgiving and used the hashtag #FindKohler to circulated a missing person flier on social media.

Family members told KNTV-TV that Kohler never missed work, especially because he had been working on a major project with a strict deadline.

"He had big ambition to work hard and that's what he's been doing and something bad happened," his mother, Sheryi Kohler, said Tuesday.

Kohler had been missing 10 days before police had located him.

Thomas said Kohler will not face any punishment if he returns to California, and the case will remain open.

"Some detectives can close this case out, because it is unique for the family's sake. They want to speak to him and see him."
