Acclaimed Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, have been found dead inside their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department were called to the home on Sunday afternoon for medical aid and found a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman dead inside, who have since been identified as the couple.
The Los Angeles Police Department described the deaths as “an apparent homicide” and TMZ reported that the pair suffered lacerations consistent with a knife. The LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division is still investigating.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” their family said in a statement. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
PEOPLE have reported that, according to multiple sources, Rob and Michele’s son Nick is the suspected killer.
Nick has previously spoken publicly about his years-long battle with drug addiction and periods of homelessness and told PEOPLE in 2016 that he had been in and out of rehab since he was 15. He co-wrote the film Being Charlie in 2015, which was loosely based on his life and was directed by his father.
Rob Reiner’s career
Rob first came to prominence as an actor on the sitcom All in the Family, winning two Emmy Awards as Michael “Meathead” Stivic. He also appeared in the films Sleepless in Seattle, The First Wives Club and The Wolf of Wall Street and recently appeared in three episodes of the TV series The Bear.
Rob made his directorial film debut with the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap and went on to earn critical acclaim directing over 20 films. He is best known for directing The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1992.
He recently directed, wrote, produced and made a cameo appearance in the film Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which was released in September 2025.
His final directorial project, the live concert film Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, will be released next year.
Rob was previously married to actress and director Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981 and had adopted her daughter from a previous marriage, actress Tracy Reiner.
Michele was a photographer who shot the cover of Donald Trump’s 1987 book The Art of the Deal and met Rob on the set of When Harry Met Sally. The pair got married in 1989 and later welcomed three children together: Jake, Nick and Romy.
