Brave Hollyoaks star comes out as non-binary and reveals new name

Hollyoaks’ star Talia Grant has changed their name to Tylan after coming out as non-binary last year.

Tylan portrays Brooke Hathaway in the soap and was the first autistic actor to play an autistic character in a British TV drama.

The actor was cast as Brooke in the soap in 2018, with the character entering as a schoolchild and the new foster child of the Osbornes.

They reflected on their biggest achievement in the last year and said coming out was one of them.

“Coming out as non-binary, that’s probably been one of the biggest transitions in my life and also the biggest achievement,” Tylan said in a video.

Their social media, including Instagram, now goes by Tylan and they have their pronouns “he/they” placed in the bio.

The bio also reads: “The arrow and the heart, growing n growing~ready for a revolution!"

Tylan’s Wikipedia and IMDB were also swiftly changed, as have the Hollyoaks end credits to show Tylan's new name.

The actor’s fans have been incredibly supportive of them, taking to their Instagram to compliment the star.

“Tylan, you are such an inspiration to me, as a queer autistic person I've never felt seen or had anybody in the media that I can relate to, and here you are thank you so much honestly,” one fan commented.

Another posted on one of their photos: “From one non-binary to another. Thank you for representing our community. Non-binary people are special people.”

A third user wrote: "So beautiful Tylan!! So proud you are standing up and mandating your needs!"

The talented star is the teenager of Fame Academy icons and vocal coaches Carrie and David Grant.

The soap star was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in 2009, at the age of seven, and has spoken about the difficulties they faced while attending school, due to there being little awareness of the syndrome at the time.
