Hollyoaks star Sophie Austin battled sepsis after operation went badly wrong

Sophie Austin revealed she's been battling sepsis after a routine operation went badly wrong.

The former Hollyoaks star, 35, said she lost a lot of weight and spent a week in hospital recovering.

In an emotional Instagram post Sophie, who is engaged to Coronation Street's Shayne Ward, opened up about the ordeal.

She wrote: "Writing this after a really crazy month, after having a routine operation and being on the mend so quickly , I took a little side road and ended up back in hospital with sepsis , after a long scary week and a lot of weight lost im home and I'm all good and ready for some good food.

"I just want to say a huge thankyou to our @nhsmillion and Macclesfield hospital for everything they do!

"I honestly can't express how lucky we are to have the most amazing health care and they are there when we need them!

"Their actions were so quick and I'm so so grateful! Please let's look after our health care system and protect them because they certainly try and look after us."

The actress, known for playing Gloved Hand Killer Lindsey Roscoe, also shared a snap of herself in a grey Wonder Woman hoodie.

She looked well on the road to recovery as she smiled for the photo.

Her Instagram followers rushed to send message of support in the comments.

One posted: "Wow you really are Wonder Woman! Glad you're feeling better."

"OMG how scary. Glad to hear you are all better now," another posted.

A third said: "Glad you're well now, must have been a hard time for you and your family."
